Old map of Santo

This letter shows one of the difficulties of everyday life on the smaller islands: It is a letter from the Principal of the high school a young woman attends to her father, a planter on the small island of Aore just south of Santo. She grew up at Aore in the fifties and sixties before she had to move to Vila to attend the state high school there. Some straight 170 miles and dozens of islands in between. Map thanks to the Perry-Castañeda Library Map Collection.
