Unaddressed covers, often with this "HOPITAL MARITIME / DE / L'ORATOIRE" imprint, with two complete British or complete French sets of the 1925 issue. The coincidence in date and type of cancel with the Leralle covers (see Correspondences - Leralle) made me first think that these were made by Monsieur Leralle too for his personal collection. But this was surely not the case. They are just covers with genuine stamps and cancel forgeries.
But if you compare them with the handdrawn pictures of page 288 du "catalogue des oblitérations des colonies françaises tome 1: "Les Possessions du Pacifique" par B Sinais et G Venot 1989 éditions Bertrand Sinais, you can easily see that the cancels were reproduced from this book. (Thanks to "SeSi" for finding the source of the fakes and providing the scan of Bertrand Sinais' book!) (Klinger coll.)
These New Hebrides "Specimen" stamps with faked overprints were listed
at Ebay in 2001.
They are nothing else than products of fantasy. I'm quite sure that they will suface again some day.
These New Hebrides "France Libre" stamps with faked additional overprints were listed in 2001 by the seller "atdinvest" at Ebay US. They are nothing else than products of fantasy and are mere kindergarten stuff. But we cannot rule out that some buyers will try to double-deal others with these fakes. Of course they use only the 5c - 15c stamps as these are cheap and can be found everywhere. (Sorry for the low quality of the pictures but I had to take them where I could find them and means of improvement were limited - Roland)
These forged SPECIMEN overprints were listed by the sellers "atdinvest",
"unlimitedstamps" and "futete" at eBay in 2000. The seller "atdinvest" also listed at
Yahoo. Before November 2000, the eBay seller "cclan" also placed similar material on these sites.
We believe that these and other overprints listed with the above sellers were
manufactured specifically for sale on Ebay and Yahoo to unsuspecting
collectors who believe they are buying "classical forgeries" which do have
some collectability and commercial value. However, they were really buying
very poor modern manufactured imitations which are contravening various laws
in their manufacture and sale, and are worthless from a philatelic point of
view as well as valueless but might be offered again.
September 2001: BEWARE!
The left stamp with the crippled 5 was offered on Ebay for about 350$ in September 2001 (the right two are genuine). Upon our massive protest the seller retracted the offer but we can not rule out the possibility that he will try it again. This is quite a lot of money for a worthless piece of paper. So please watch out!
19 April 1975 (?)
Letter from Labour Department to Joint Court (only partly shown). The cover seems to be genuine but the cancel is a fake. It is PCH type 27AU, known only 17.-4.75-2 (a busy day!). Not seen very often: sender's address on a Vila letter! (Klinger coll. thanks to Big Jim)
1977
Fakes of the 25 and 30 FNH British provisionals. They had been part of a complete set which was ok but these two I had in hand in 2000.
