Reverse of the cover
The left cover was in its original state in year 2002:
New Hebrides registration handstamp, manuscript reg.-nuber, U.S. registration handstamp and printed reg.-number.
The other cover at right shows this too.
Then somebody objected the printed "postage stamps" and felt he must stick an U.S. registration label over this
imprint. No sense and understanding but the cover is ruined!. The image in the middle shows how it looked when I saw
it at a French auction in year 2009.
Both covers were carried from Port Vila to Sydney by
the Burns Philp & Co. steamer MALAITA (arrived Sydney 21 Nov) and from Sydney to San Francisco by the
Union Steamship Co. of New Zealand steamer TAHITI (ex PORT KINGSTON) departing Sydney 11 Sept. and arriving
San Francisco on 5 January 1912. (Info thanks to Jeff Blinco)
