Letter to Païta, New Caledonia, the 50c stamp is tied with PCH type 9.
As the separators at left and at right of Vila are very clearly 2½ mm
long, it is subtype 9A. Backstamped Nouméa 4.2.31 and Païta,
5 Fevr 31. (Klinger coll.)
The addressee, George Pouillet, was the son of Édouard, Mayor of Païta
from 1900 to 1907. Georges was born in 1864 and died in Nouméa in 1933. His
son Édouard was a settler in the New Hebrides so this letter may have
been sent by him.
