1909 understamped combination with local and GB arrival
surcharge marks. The 2d or 20c letter rate to GB is franked only with 1d and 5c
= 1½d or 15c. The attempt to remedy this was in vain as the NSW 1d stamp
had been demonetized for use in the New Hebrides on 30 November 1908 following
introduction of the New Hebrides stamps. Therefore the NSW stamp was
marked with this little circle. Cancelled with PCH type 5.
Therefore local triangular boxed T and GB surcharge mark are correctly shown
with Nov 23, 09 arrival office postmark. (Namba 2 coll.)
