Text part 1 (S.M.H. = Sydney Morning Herald)

Text part 2
This aerogramme came from my friend Bill Holland's collection. Here's his original write-up:
This aerogramme from the Solomon Islands was written on 8 November 1956 on Vanikoro in the Santa Cruz group of small islands some 150 km north of the New Hebrides Torres Islands.
There was no airstrip on the island and ships rarely visited. The aerogramme was delivered to a ship going south and was off loaded at the first post office, Santo, in the New
Hebrides. As there was no Paquebot strike in Santo, the correct rate 8d Solomon Islands stamp was properly dumb cancelled in black with the Santo cds dated '24NO56'[PCH 39]
[=Goyns-Klinger type PM20] alongside [17 days].
As there was no airmail service between Santo and Vila in 1956, the cover was carried to Vila by boat where it was transit backstamped 'VILA -5DE56' [12 days]. It is possible
that the cover was finally flown from Vila by the new service [which] started in December 1956 by TAI to Noumea where it would join the twice weekly Qantas service to Sydney.
This a "Baldwin" aerogramme but for a change not one of his many philatelic covers but a normal correspondence with Fred L. Jones.

It is interesting that this aero-gramme is franked as normal air mail letter to the U.S. Surface non-colonial letter rate in these years was
25 centimes gold and air mail surcharge on letters used by the New Hebs Condominium PO from 1947 to 1977 to the U.S. was 30 centimes gold.
A dual aerogramme rate was introduced in 1963: 25 cg for colonial destinations and 30cg for non-colonial destinations. Both lasted until 1970.
